waroeng penyet

waroeng penyet

last sunday, jon, eiling and i went for indon food... its my first time (both indon food and waroeng penyet). its a relatively new place opened at the curve and if its not for the review of other floggers i wouldnt know that this part of the world where waroeng penyet is located exist! (i seldom take the connecting bridge from ikano to the curve)

we were immediately seated. crowd wasnt that huge on a sunday night but many non-malays faces were spotted patronizing this eatery place- signs of approval from the community :)

its a self service place where it functions like the hk-charchanteng style, except that after you tick the items that you want, you have to bring it to the cashier itself, pay the bill and he/she will take note of your orders from there. the workers there are all indonesians which further enhances the authencity of the place. the food... we'll taste first and comment later ;-)

these are what we ordered-

gado gado- rm5.90
mixed salad in peanut sauce

rawon- rm6.90
javanese beef soup

ayam penyet- rm7.90
flattened fried chicken (must try!!)

ayam panggang- rm7.90
grilled chicken

keropok- rm1.90

es milo dinosaur- rm3.90
(must try!!)

jus jeruk limau- rm3.50

es teh sosro- rm2.50
sweetened jasmine tea (must try!!)

taste wise, it is something different from our usual kfc/roadside nasi lemak fried chickens as penyet in malay means flattened. yes, the chicken is flattened before frying to make its flesh loosen from its bones for easy eating. there are also empal penyet (fried beef), bawal penyet (fried pomfret), udang penyet (fried prawns), lele penyet (fried catfish), bakso penyet (fried beef balls), wings penyet (fried chicken wings) and tahu, tempe & telor penyet (fried egg, tempe & taufoo).

besides penyet items, there are also grilled, soup and greenies items... and best thing is all of them are priced below rm10. so for about rm15, you'll get a yummylicious filled indon meal.

total bill for 3 pax- rm42.30
(no taxes yet!!)

i'll definitely recommend this place to anyone and everyone! and i'll be back to savour the rest of the items in their menu... right now, im craving for the penyet items already!!

baked garlic chicken

playing mom for these 2 weeks since the real mom is away has certainly boost my confidence especially in the cooking department. im no longer a girl who cant cook. just last week, i was browsing through mom's collection of cookbook and found what seems like an uber easy baked garlic chicken recipe. and so i thought, ive got chicken, ive got garlic... so why not?

and here is another easy peasy recipe for you guys who wants to do a little masak-masak :-)

step 1: prepare ingredients- chopped garlic, rosemary, mixed herbs, chicken drumsticks, salt, olive oil, grounded black pepper.

step 2: marinate chicken with garlic, salt, pepper, olive oil, rosemary and mixed herbs. marinate well for at least 3-4 hours.

step 3: place chicken on a baking tray lined with aluminium foil. bake at 220 celcius for 30-35 minutes or until chicken cooks and skin becoming crisp.

my fav device in the kitchen- the oven roaster!
(which looks like a UFO)

step 4: wait... wait... and wait.

it is cookinggggg...

step 5: SERVE!

ahhh... looks good aint it? taste good too!

yumm yummz ;-)

and these are what i cooked on that night. abc soup, baked garlic chicken and baked beans minced chicken with egg. heee! not bad huh? eiling says im on par with mom! and jon who tumpang dinner also said the chicken was good. heheh!

yeah, im gonna cook this when mom comes back and we'll hear what she says!

guys/girls who wanna impress your other half, this is a really great recipe as it looks impressive but is actually very very easy! and you cant go wrong with the taste too as the ingredients are nothing fancy/spectacular.

*important #tips- it is better to use chicken drumsticks that has the skin intact as when you bake it, the skin turns crispy and its very tasty! just make sure you drink loadsa water after that!

la bodega bangsar

last friday, we went to la bodega @ jalan telawi, bangsar for jade's 19th birthday dinner. for most of us, it was our first time there so we didnt know what to expect (food and pricing). i managed to do alil reading before heading out and found out that la bodega is famous for its selection of tapas and alcohol (wine) and it is part of the gastrodome group which also manages the atrium, telawi street bistro and such. needless to say, it was an atasan place.

true enough, selection process was long as there were so many items on the menu, and most of them are not in english! and they werent any pictures either, just brief descriptions of each item on the menu. after what seemed like forever, these are the drinks we had.

my iced chocolate- rm9

jill's pink guava juice- rm8

param's mojito- rm21

fernie's sex on the beach- rm21

rong jiang's margarita- rm24

jade & elaine's sole still water (1liter)- rm16

and what seemed like forever again, these were our selection of Entrées...

r.champinones- rm20
button mushroom tapas

r.caracoles- rm18
escargots tapas

olive oil vinegar for bread dipping

... and mains:

my steak pie- rm19
cubes of beef tenderloin wrapped in puff pastry

rong jiang's salmon fettucine- rm28

param's mushroom risotto- rm26

fernie's cold roast leg of lamb- rm17

jill's spaghetti marinara- rm24

elaine's spaghetti carbonara- 26

jade's beef tenderloin- rm65

complimentary tiramisu cake

food was great, ambience was great, price was standard bangsar-atasan place (but cheaper compared to chinoz klcc) but service on that night wasnt that great. in fact, it was reeeaaaaaally slowwwwww. it took us about 2 hours plus to 3 to finish the dinner.

total bill- rm393.30 (rm50 goes to taxes alone!!)

definitely a once-in-a-blue-moon indulgence...

and two for the album!
