agefuku japanese restaurant

agefuku japanese restaurant

being fans of the japanese delicacy, food and cuisine, calvin and i decided to give this place a try after a 30mins drive around taipan asking each other,

"what do you feel like eating?"
"anything you want to eat."

/passes by steamboat
"steamboat?"
"nah, don't feel like having steamboat."

/passes by korean bbq
"korean bbq?"
"nah, that day only had korean remember?"

/passes by nasi kandar
"nasi kandar?"
"nah, don't feel like having curry-curry food."

/passes by some bbq chicken shop
"bbq chicken?"
"dun wan fried fried food."

/pulls hair, curses under breath, stomach growling
"......"
"let's just try this japanese place lah."
*mutters @$#&*

japanese green tea & appetizer

at the ground floor is a fast food concept while the top floor is dedicated to proper japanese dining. it was a weekday, the restaurant was rather empty except a couple of tables at the fast food level. we were the only diners at the top level.

agedashi tofu- rm10.00
deep fried corn-floured beancurd served with tempura sauce and juliennes of seaweed

my superfav side dish and a must! agedashi tofu! the texture of the tofu did not disappoint- smooth, piping hot and absolutely yum!

saba shioyaki- rm20.00
grilled mackeral with salt

sanma shioyaki- rm20.00
grilled pike mackerel with salt

we both had the set meal and we both had mackerel. i notice that most of the mains in the sets are fish and are mackerels. for the price and the items included in the set (fruits, chawanmushi, miso soup, salad, rice), it was not too bad. food tasted pretty okay too. you can have a choice of doing the fish in shioyaki (salt) or the teriyaki sauce, we both chose salt.

besides set meals, there are also other items you will find in a japanese restuarant- sushi, tempura, rolls, noodles, sashimi, etc etc. i find the prices for these items on a slightly pricey side, again, as comparison, i believe sushi zanmai is still a better affordable yet quality japanese dining choice.

service is excellent btw :-)

pasta de gohan

pasta de gohan- eye catchy decos

if the name doesn't attract you at first sight (reminds me of dragonball's sun goku, sun gohan), then these plates of pasta goodies put up vertically (no drippings of sauces and the lobster stays upright!) will definitely pull you like a magnet into the shop.

it's barely a week old and calvin & i (yes, he's back!) took the opportunity to be among the firsts to try it out and present you guys with this review :-)

choices in menu, deco, weird pasta toppings

fresh grapefruit juice- rm3.80

carbonara oyster & bacon spaghetti- rm25.80
topped with yolk and carbonara sauce

spaghetti nero di seppia- rm 28.80
squid & black squid ink with wafu sauce

macha azuki parfait- rm8.90
macha ice cream topped with shiratama, red bean and strawberries

food is pretty good, love the carbonara as it is not too creamy and portions are just right. you should know by now i'm a sucker for anything with oysters! there were 4 of them btw, wished there were more bacon though. however, it is a little pricey for that kind of portions if compared to pasta zanmai (notice the similar food concept- japanese fusion). the variations can make you take half an hour before deciding on the pasta you want. for those who doesn't fancy pasta, there are also pizza, hamburgs, gratin, soups, salad, rice dishes etc.

cash vouchers- more pasta de gohan!

on the 9th & 10th of may, there was a opening promotion whereby the amount you spent on your bill will be refunded 100% with vouchers, and so here I have about rm78 worth of vouchers... i want to eat the lobster pasta next!

our verdict: recommended!

and this is why you shouldn't have the squid ink pasta on your first date with your gf/potential gf...

marco's pizza

marco's pizza

marco's pizza needs no introduction i believe. so to skip the long dinner short, here are what my friend and i had for our dinner last wednesday.

wild mushroom soup- rm6.80

unlike your usual campbell's-pizza hut kind of mushroom soup, marco's has its mushrooms all blended in and i love it! i also like mama chops papa grill mushroom soup. yumm!

four seasons (chef's choices)- rm24.80 (large)

for our mains, i chose the four seasons where there are four choices of toppings in one pizza. however, the toppings are fixed which are:

beef pepperoni & capsicum

turkey ham and pineapple

dory fish & pineapple

artichoke & olives

we didn't eat the artichoke flavour as it doesn't taste good. what are artichokes? it looks and taste a little like the chinese 'ham choi', all i know is its also some 'atasan' kinda food... don't like the taste though.

marco's supreme
smoked beef pepperoni, beef salami, shredded turkey ham, capsicum & wild mushrooms with onions and black olives

marco's is now having a BUY 1 LARGE, GET 1 REGULAR FREE promotion, so the marco's supreme was free and i had it for breakfast, lunch, dinner the next day... *burps*

# sorry for the lack of updates for days... got no time and guess who went for the 2days of freedom festival @admiral marina, port dickson straight after work on friday? will blog about it soon!

wantan mee @ss2

not a cheap hawker fare after all...

after the FJ Benjamin sales, we realized it was already 2pm... time flies when you're in a midst of shopping frenzy, especially a branded sales. we headed back to ss2 and had wantan noodles from this shop which specializes in the said hawker fare.

'angel hair' wantan noodles with char siew

sui gao and wantan

this shop has got a number of reviews from other food bloggers but in my humble opinion, i found the whole 'frenzy' an overrated one. not that it is not d'lish, it was just above average and for that kind of price, i'd prefer to eat wantan mee elsewhere cheaper. also, the 'lo hon ko' herbal drink was rather bad, diluted and unoriginal. tsk.

these are a few of my favorite things

#1- public holidays! oh how i heart and long for this labour's day to come... i was literally counting the secs for the clock to strike 5.45pm in office yesterday!

#2- a jug of sangria pleaseeeeee. yummz!

#3- internet! can u believe that i, of all people who used to online at least 12 hrs a day, am deprived of internet in office? my company krazy one! (nolah actually being in the banking industry, security is superduper tight, we even have to tag in/out of the foodcourt! but still quite krazy right!)

#5- $money$! why can't $$ drop from sky or grow on trees????

#4- my newly acquired raoul cufflink shirt & skirt (rm80 each), guess watch & heels (rm169&rm75), la senza lingerie (rm85)- 4 days worth of salary spent in an afternoon. yes, the FJ Benjamin sales @BVII! actually most of the things still very pricey la but takkan walk out emptyhanded after waiting for so long meh... and special vip preview passes for friends&family only ok!

okla since i am very lazy to blog about food today, here are some snapshots of the sales for the benefit of those never been part of this krazy thing women like to do- warehouse sales shopping!!

vip passes!

the whole of kl's women are here!
(p/s: labour's day= perfect day for warehouse sales!)

a small corner that stood the maids looking after babies in prams...

krazy one this woman. the guess bags were seriously UGLY and yet she bought so many! if u can count the number of guess bags in the picture, i give you 10sen. i think she will resell them either in flea markets or online boutiques...

every woman's favourite red sign. omg panties so cheap but all also g-strings and thongs :(

#

i finally know how it feels like to get ONE public holiday out of the 365 working days. super happy feeling k! i think this is the 1st time i'm truly celebrating the holiday dedicated to us labours and find it particularly meaningful. i celebrated it with a bunch of still-studying friends in italiannies-baskinrobbins-laundry till 2am something! heehee!

oh, i had my inaugural team meeting yesterday and received a few assignments from my boss. i think it is gonna be very challenging as whatever she asked me to do i have no idea what she is talking about! just further proves the point that whatever you learn in college is not applicable to hands-on real work! other than that, well i've also been assigned to assist another colleague in preparing financial this&that for the islamic banking *yawns* actually i'm quite looking forward to learning and doing real work.

happy labour's day, we know we deserve today :)

p/s: i won the consolation prize of the malaysiandreamgirl blog write up! rm100 credit to go shopping!! :-D

good weather friends

standing at the finishing line, i begin to wonder alot of things.

friends.
life.
family.
work.
money.

.
..
...
....
.....
......
.......
........
.........
..........

oh work.

yes, tomorrow is my first day at work. i'm excited like... err... the first day of everything! from entering kindergarten (actually can't remember but i think i was excited), to primary school, secondary school, to moving to another state, and another secondary school (from all girls school to co-ed! culture shock!), to college and then uni... and now the workforce.

a turmoil of emotions, yes. estatic. overjoyed. panicky. happy. scared. nervous. anxious. afraid. complacent. contented. uneasy. euphoric. glad. pleased. sad. gloomy. worried. i could list you a million adjectives but yet words fail to describe what i am feeling at the moment.

what should i wear tomorrow?
which pair of shoes?
what time to wake up?
where should i get my breakfast from?
what time to sleep tonight?
what do i do when i see my colleagues?
do i tag along for lunch?
what should i say?
(.........)

a million emotions accompanied by a million questions- 'first day questions' i call it. questions i have no answers to. questions that i wish there was someone to help me find an answer. i wish i have my sisters with me- from the first day of primary school till the first day of uni, i always have an answer.

where to line up for morning assembly, where to get my food, where to report lost&founds, where to get my notes photocopied, what to do in class, what not to say to lecturers, what to do to gain marks and where to park my car.

there was always an answer.

but now i have to do this alone, in a territory totally new and unknown, unexplored and unexpected, unfamiliar and different. i am scared.

(sorry abit emo :-/)

the finishing line is only the beginning. and tomorrow is where it begins.

goodnight world.

(p/s: if you're wondering the relevance of the title... well i meant to write something on it, but i supposed there are some things better left unsaid, unknown and unquestioned)

MDG- Malaysian Drama Girls

today's post is not about food, rather my humble opinion of the current online reality show hype- Malaysian Dreamgirl (MDG). if you must know, yes i watched every single episode of it and i will tell you what i think thus far (eps1-14).

Q: What do you get when you put 12 girls together in a house?
A: Drama, Drama, Drama, and more Drama.

in the first 10 episodes or so, the clear biatch in the house was...

cindy

speaks with an accent on camera and got all the girls complaining about her. but when i watched her intro video, i thought she really stood out- the way she speaks, full of confidence, articulate, fluent, clear, determined. but still, she was quite a biatch on camera. the recent few episodes showed that she somehow has toned down her biatch-ness, camera time also reduced... to give way to another biatch i suppose.

BUT! as the show progresses... another biatch is showing her true colors, and she is none other than...

nadia

super competitive and completely took over the biatch of the house title from cindy. nadia also looks very old for a 20 year old girl... i thought she's like 25 or something!

superlongwinded on camera, c'mon la like what porcinusmay said about the MIFA rehearsals, i can see the stage is L shape and i don't want to know if you've "sketched" the stage and see other girls walking yada yada yada blah blah blah. most of the time, her sentences just don't connect!

in Eps 12- MIFA launch (5:56):

"i feel intimidated of course and i feel jealous and also part of them because they are my close friends also and... if they were, you know, requested on trying on these designer clothes and whatsoever... for me, every dog has its day, so, it will be my chance... because i... i seen jay and hanis also they tried hard and they look *rolls eyes* beautiful of course. i rea... i... i just feel like they are more beautiful than me, prettier and everything, so i guess it's a good chance for them but it's gonna be my turn also some day."

in Eps 13- House Guest (3:19) nadia starts her super-bitching:

"cindy was... err she... she has a crush on JP so, you know she was paying attention mostly to JP, so I mean... no offence, it's ok, you know for me because *fake hahaha* I bet you can feel it JP *points to camera* *fake hahaha* during the dinner she was sitting next to JP and during the game also she was sitting reaaaaally close to JP so I mean we know that she likes him, so, you know, let it go *fake hahaha*"

aiyoh c'mon la any girl will be attracted to JP as well... see how kiutt he is... nadia, you know you like him too, so stop bitching about cindy. at least she's brave enough to admit it. just reflects how low you are to bitch about others when you kept saying "i mean... no offence..." pls-lah! viewers aren't dumb ok!

i bet nadia is super jealous... 0_0

Episode 13- Elimination

if you would have noticed, after sazzy said nadia was safe and thus jay has to be eliminated, nadia hugged jay only to be given a big loud slap at the back. *pap* ouch! imho, jay shouldn't have done that even if she dislikes nadia... anyway jay is back in the show cos it wasnt an elimination. as much as i think jay has what it takes to be a model, i don't think she's gonna make it since it's based on sms votes.

my forecast of TOP 3-

ringo
(duh! she has a HUGE fanbase from her blog and has never been in the bottom 3. deserving? as much as i love reading her blog, she's got a cute sweet face but definitely not dreamgirl material. and i think she writes better than she speaks on screen. the kiutsy voice just annoys me)

hanis (the hanis in photos and the hanis in real life is completely 2 different persons! she has good photos and runway style but i get irritated by the way she talks too! 1-2 episodes okla quite manis but a few more episodes omg can she stop that manja tone already??!! i know she's only 18 this year but c'mon. "macam tu la kan... best giler... always like this la kan..." *frustrated grrr- drags forward*)

cindy (she may not have a good impression but like many others, guys like this kinda girls don't they? plus, she comes from a well to do family... and it's the sms votes that counts... so yeah go figure)

my comments on MDG:

i hate reality shows which are based on sms votes. not only they are expensive (if someone you know is in it, of course somehow you're compelled to vote for them right), they are also very unfair... see what happened to alison. she was one of my fav! but got voted out in the 1st elimination :( i think results should be based on 50% judges and 50% sms votes.

stop airing crying-yakking scenes already! especially after a girl is eliminated, then every single remaining girl talks about how "special, wonderful, caring, blahblahblah damn fake ok* the girl is and it drags for damn long... most of the time i just skip!

MDG- 12 girls, 1 house, 1487937295 dramas

p/s: i'm going to redang tonight! be back soon!

bubba gump shrimp co.

bubba gump shrimp co.

if fish&co. specializes in fish, king crab in crabs, nando's in chicken, and sanfransisco steakhouse in steak... what does bubba gump shrimp co. specializes in?

it takes no genius to figure it out. of cos- shrimps! (aka prawns, udang, 'har')

"bu... bubba... gu... gump... what??!", you ask? (sounds like bubble gum, yes?)

forest gump's house?

funny and familiar as it sounds, the restaurant is (yes, i hear you forest gump fans out there) based on the forest gump movie. bubba is forest gump's best friend.

interesting & memorable quotes from the movie

"life is like a plate of shrimps, you'll never know what type of shrimps you get"

i'm kidding of cos. anyway, yesterday my sister and i were in the curve to get some shopping done and we chanced upon this restaurant due to its bright neon lights... found out that it was their first opening day yesterday. how lucky of us to be among the first bloggers to try out this place! :D

table setting- too many things on the table

the place ain't packed or anything and it still puzzles us why we were put on the 'waiting list' for about 25 mins but we assumed that it was probably their 1st day so they didn't want too many people just so they could provide the best service and smoothen things out :-/

we were fortunately seated at the upper floor as it allows us to have a glance of the place from bottom to top. deco's pretty impressive, they must have spent quite an amount to provide this "forest gump" experience. you'll see alot of memorabilia of the movie (signs, t-shirts, sauce bottles, pictures etc). what caught our attention the most was of cos the table setting. see the metal plate sign- 'run forest run' and 'stop forest stop'?

posing with the quirky signs

this is how its supposed to work. 'run forest run' is similar to the hotel room sign 'do not disturb' while 'stop forest stop' is similar to 'housekeeping please'. so when you need something from the restaurant crews, simply flip to the red sign and when you want a peaceful meal flip it over to the blue sign. simple and innovative :)

maybe it was their first day, the crews were feeling excited and hyper... we kept the sign at 'run forest run' but every 5 mins or so the crews kept coming over our table to ask if we needed anything/is the food alright/any more orders etc. its good service to a point that it was getting kinda annoying :-/

you name it, they've got it- mama gump hot sauce, lingham's sos cili, heinz malt vinegar and ketchup

okay time for a review of the food!

run forest run- rm10.90
fresh oranges, strawberries, bananas and non-fat raspberry frozen yogurt

cajun shrimp appetizer- rm20.90
sauteed in hot and spicy cajun butter sauce. served with garlic bread for dippin'.

shrimper's heaven- rm44.90

chilly shrimp

fried shrimp

coconut shrimp

tempura shrimp

dippin' sauces, coleslaw and thick cut fries

the above orders are all bubba gump's recommended items, i supposed we can't go wrong with these. indeed everything tastes good, most importantly the shrimps are fresh and succulent at average sizes too. there are however a few lembik soggy ones. the appetizer was delish! cocktails & smoothies are available but imho, to wash down all the fried stuff, iced water is the best :D

for non-seafood eaters, there are also items for you such as steak/chicken... concept, prices and servings are pretty similar to tgif & chilli's.

but for now... we are staying away from japanese food and shrimps for a month!
