taishi teppanyaki @ usj9

craving for teppanyaki but don't want to brave the traffic jams, going in rounds looking for a parking spot and wasting time in a shopping mall? come to think of it, how many independent teppanyaki shops are there out there that are NOT in shopping malls?

google'd and found taishi teppanyaki in usj 9.

pretty good ambience, eh?

we (me, calvin, eiling) stood out being the only patrons in the outlet after a couple left moments after we were seated. and having one big camera with flashes snapping away doesn't help with being the center of attention. that being said, we were approached by the 'lao pan niang' (lady boss) who relate to us that her husbang (aka 'lao pan') once had one big camera as well but was stolen after the shop got broken into blablabla.

further conversations... blablabla taishi has been around for 4 years blablabla lao pan niang learnt the japanese culinary from japan where her sister resides in blablabla chefs are local blablabla own homemade concocted special sauces blablabla

food is not too bad, but a tad too pricey imho, sushi is not recommended though. i love my goma peanut butter sauce as it goes really well with the rice! i heard calvin said he loves the nz sirloin beef which was done in butter yaki style. looking at the pics make me wanna have the meal all over again....

o~chacha cafe

o~chacha cafe

need your fix of everything and anything green tea? then head on to o~chacha cafe at pavillion, kl!

i've read of the new green tea inspired outlet but has never gotten around to give it a visit as...
1) i dunno how to get to pavillion
2) i dunno how to go to kl
3) i dunno how to go to kl, thus i dunno how to go to pavillion

when we were at the mall last week looking for a dessert place, we passed by a japanese girl giving out free samples of their green tea ice blended and it sent us both straight to heaven. immediately we knew o~chacha was the answer to our quest-for-dessert.

i know i'm so blessed

all my life i think i've been pretty blessed.

>> from kindergarten to primary school.

>>> secondary school to college and then uni.

>>>> and finally out of uni, looking for a job.

even before i finish uni, i've already secured a job with the 2nd largest bank in malaysia. but after a month, i left that job realizing what i've been doing in uni is not what i want to do with the rest of my life- numbers.

ironically, i got a 1st class in accounting, something that i only dare to dream of in sleep,
& university prizewinner for 'leadership skills' award,
& in the running to become the valedictorian.

& to top that off, i also won the presentation star search competition in college 2 weeks back. read JEN'S for full story.

am i not the luckiest girl on earth?

life is funny that way :-/

* now gimme my (dream)job!!

pasta de gohan #2

pasta de gohan pretty neat little decorations

mix fruits juice- rm4.80

squid and roe- rm23.80
with japanese style original cream sauce

lobster carbonara- rm33.80
with japanese style original cream sauce

we had rm78 worth of vouchers from our first visit and decided we should make full use of the vouchers by trying other items on the menu. another question that frequently haunt us is "what to order?"

i've already set my mind that i will not look at any items in the menu except "LOBSTER CARBONARA MUAHAHAHA" (ok i added the muahaha for 'effect'). calvin chose the squid and roe pasta.

to be honest, the pasta tasted great. not too creamy to make us 'jelak' and just right portions, but yet again i still find it way too pricey for a pasta. moreover the lobster was so tiny (with big head to deceive us all). sighs maybe the lobster that day was small body with big head (big brains too maybe? eat already damn smart one).

we didnt order any dessert this time as we were simply too stuffed. total bill was rm74 and i still got rm8 worth of vouchers. anybody wants?

la bodega #2 @ pavillion, kl

thinking of what to eat is such a headache. so, like many out there when we are haunted by this question, passing by any restaurants offering any kind of promotions/discounts does help us make a decision.

"Promotion: Choose any 4 Tapas, served with paella for two @ RM80++"

sounds like a pretty good deal!

foreground: iced mocha (coffee by illy caffe)- rm10
background: melon berry crush- rm16
this pretty, summer drink is refreshing and rehydrating. strawberries are thought to have calming properties.

caracoles cocidos al horno con salsa verde- rm20
baked snails with salsa verde

pincho de pescado con tomato dulce y salsa- rm18
fish kebab with sweet tomato & chili salsa

cordero de corteza dulce lomo corto- rm15
sweet crust lamb short loin

el pesto adobo alla de pollo con blancha- rm12
pesto marinated chicken wings with plancha

paella de codomiz- rm28 per pax (for a min of 2 persons)
spanish rice cooked in a paella with quail confit

everything was really good! delicious! delicioso! délicieux! squisito! okok i think you get the point :-p the absolute star winner was the pesto chicken wings, fish kebab and lamb short loin. the meat were really tender, fresh and the sauce was really bread-lickin'-good! the paella was alright, although the quail meat was very tender as well but there were so many little bones! at one time i ate a piece and made 20 trips to my mouth to pick out the bones! haha not kua cheong ok!

i think this is a pretty good la bodega promotion, if you notice the pricing above is the ala carte price. highly recommended! drinks are wee bit expensive though :(

eat out, steak out

steak out

i first spotted a 15% discount on dining @steak out in the papers and didn't pay much attention to it until calvin asked me to decide on where to eat, preferably somewhere new. discounts and a new place to eat sounds like a pretty good solution to the all-time-favorite question: "WHERE TO EAT?"

mango smoothie- rm9.90

escargot (1/2 dozen)- rm10.90
baked escargot with cheese to perfection

steaky's sizzling combo- rm29.90
a combination of german sausage, lamb, chicken & beef brochettes and served with baked potato

pork chop- rm24.90
served with honshimegi mushroom & vegetables

food's pretty alright, ambience is okay too with great oldies in the player, service is commendable BUT photography is a little difficult as the owner will come around and ask your purpose of photographing the food... at first he seemed a little scary but after telling him it's for our blog, he was ok with it and even recommended us to another restaurant of his where we will be allowed to photograph as we like upon mentioning his name.

bacardi razz and all that jazz

love it!

had my first taste of a 'social' event last friday night (to celebrate being an unemployed now). my sister, the seasonal party goer, clubber, event-launching-and-she'll-be-there, asked me if i wanted to join her for the bacardi razz launching at bar celona @sunway pyramid and i jumped at the opportunity after this conversation:

me: will there be free flow of booze?
she: yes.
me: okay! let's go!

pulled calvin along to be the driver & photographer hehe and (p/s- so that my sis and i can drink, drink and drink without having to worry about driving home later hehe).

it was an awesome night! bacardi razz was very nice... easy to drink (not on the rocks though), taste more like a fruity drink after mixing with either tonic/sprite, love the raspberry they put into the drinks too. my sister's friend (amy) is working for bacardi and she provided us with free flow of bacardi razz and expensive raspberries which we just conveniently popped into our mouths.

to cut the long story short, without having to pay a single cent (exept for valet parking), we had free flow of booze, tonnes of raspberries, loud music, many camwhore photos and an iPod! hee!

trying to be every bit of socialite that we clearly are not

can we take these home???

lucky lucky girl! she won an iPod in a lucky draw!

calvin: hmmm... why is she taking my picture?

a very happy us with amy (thanks amy for the invites!)
