Middle Eastern Fare @ Tarbush

middle eastern fare @ tarbush

tarbush, a name that needs no further introduction for middle eastern cuisines. my first time having middle eastern cuisine to be honest and i found the whole experience an eye-tongue opener.

prior to this, i had the impression that middle eastern fares are nothing but kebabs, olives, kebabs and more olives. but tarbush made me realized that there is more to this than kebabs and olives.

mutabal- rm12
grilled eggplant dip made creamy with tahina sauce with generously drenched in olive oil

very interesting appetizer indeed. to start off it arrived looking nothing like the 'grilled egplant' in the description. it was really blended to a fine creamy dip that goes well with warm pita bread. the secret to eat this is NOT to spread the dip in the pita bread but just fold the thin and fluffy bread and dip it like you're dipping nachos in salsa sauce.

the pita bread is highly recommended as i believe it is baked fresh... yumz!

ox-tail soup- rm9
aromatic creamy soup

the oxtail soup is recommended as well. it arrived in a classy deep square white bowl. servings may look small but it is enough to keep your tongue on a standby mode for more goodies to come. the soup is creamy and very flavourful, just what anyone needs after a hard day at work.

tarbush mixed grill- rm35
a mouth-watering medley of lamb chop, shish tawook, shish kebab, and lamb cubes

if you're as clueless as we were when it comes to mains, the tarbush mixed grill comes highly recommended by us. it offers a little bit of everything and because it is so good we shall even call it 'the best of everything'. meat were grilled to perfection, flavourful yet tenderness and juiciness of the meat were maintained. perfect for sharing and unleashing the carnivore in you!

arabic tea pot- rm7

we had earlier wanted plain water but all they have is mineral water which we have a strict policy of not paying so much for a bottle of mineral water. hence, we asked for recommendations from the waiter and he recommended the arabic tea. it carries a minty taste (i like mint ice creams but not in my tea) and we were alittle skeptical at first. all doubts vanished after we had our first sip. it was great and definitely helped to wash the aftertaste and improves digestion yada yada yada. p/s: refillable too :-)

give tarbush a try if you're looking for something exotic yet tried and tasted to be delicious ;-)

Shin o-shima Japanese Restaurant (buffet steamboat)

Free Photo Hosting - Photolava.com
shin o-shima japanese restaurant with a banner of steamboat promotion

this food review is pretty irrelevant with the restaurant as im not going to review bout the japanese food in this japanese place. saw a flyer that theres an all-you-can-eat steamboat buffet at rm20 per pax and decided to try it one saturday night 2 weeks back...

a balance of both clear broth and tom yum

we came with no expectations. i mean "harro, japanese place with steamboat...? errr...." but overall we were pretty satisfied with the meal. the ingredients fared pretty ok, considering its 20bucks. the broth tasted sweet at the end as we added alot of seafood and most surprising was there were crabs too. we didnt eat them, just for soup flavoring.

for a more complete meal, there are also free flow of drinks (choice of longan drink, cincau or water) and ice creams (i like the pistachio one).

gaucho grill @ chulan square
argentina steaks. salad bar. wines

we've been saying about coming here for steaks since last year and finally it was a reality as we don't go into the heart of kl for meals very often. gaucho grill is an steakhouse specializing in argentina-style steaks and i have read of a few good recommendations about the place. then again, you must know by know i'm krazily in love with beef!

every order of mains come complimentarily with free flow of the salad and soup. regretted i only had one serving of the soup... it was so yum!

it was just ok. our fav is still from peppercorn cafe @ ss15! yummy and reasonable :) love it with alot alot alot alot of garlic (dunno why as i'm not a big fan of garlic per se).

iced illy coffee- rm10

terpaksa order this as they dont provide normal water. their only 'normal' water is bottled mineral water and it costs rm6.50! what a rip off! so why not pay rm10 for an illy coffee than rm6.50 for a normal rm1.50 worth water?

my most memorable would still be the oyster steak at sanfrancisco steakhouse. gaucho grill, like many other steakhouses are on the pricey side so be prepared to fork out at least rm100 per person for a decent steak experience!

p/s: parking at chulan square is not cheap too...

after a heavy meal, and since we're at the heart of kl, we decided to pay skybar a visit. there weren't too many people as it was still pretty early for a drink on a friday night. we managed to get a table overlooking the magnificently-picturesque-once-upon-a-time-highest-skyscraper-on-earth. so lomantik...

this is an update

hello.

#1 After exactly a month out of job, i finally found one. actually there were two, one deals with ice cream and the other which i call it the 4 great deadly sins- liquor, chocolates, perfume, tobacco. i like ;-) i chose the latter. more on the job maybe end of the week, but for now i'm liking the sounds of gucci, versace, ck, chanel in the meeting agenda...

#2 My car runs on rm2.70 petrol/liter for the first time and my heart nearly bled. actually it did bleed after i pumped my sister's thirsty waja- 120bucks omgwtfbbq! she tricked me into exchanging cars with her while i was unemployed!! and i have to drive 80km everyday in the name of 'cari makan/rezeki/ricebowl'. le sighhhh.

#3 RPK, with all due highest respects for you! we malaysians are forever-everly in debt by your courage and bravery to speak out! dunno whats happening??? itulah sebab tak banyak membaca. click here to read breaking news!

#4 Need to sleep. sekian.

wasabi ice cream (complimentary)

sushi groove is having a set lunch promotion where all mains come with a complimentary choice of ice cream (green tea/ wasabi/ black sesame) and green tea of course. the dream roll was great as appetizers with a tinge of spicyness from the generous dollops of mayo. our mains fared ordinary, nothing to shout about although i have now learnt to love soba noodles, hot and cold. i still love my beef so yes any beef-y orders should be mine.

oh and the wasabi ice cream is really like wasabi. gawd, it is beyond me why would anyone wanna eat wasabi for dessert??! *stares at calvin* (p/s: check out his new smoke art!)

still prefer my sushi zanmai anytime but the last i went there and ordered the soft shell crab maki, the serving looked like it shrunk :-( the effects of fuel price increase although i have no idea how they are related. just like to bring the issue up again haha.

Balinese Fare @ Ole Ole Bali

Free Image Hosting - Photolava.com
iced barley lime (complimentary with every mains ordered)

ole ole bali has been around pyramid for some time now but i have never brought myself or anyone to try it until one fine day when khian came to look for me and meiling was coincidently around we went to pyramid with the intention of having thai, but ended up here as actually thai was empty (you know what an empty eatery means...).

ole-ole trio- rm33
a combination of ole-ole bbq wings, sate lilit and cumi-cumi goreng, served with sambel matah, sambel terasi, and tartar sauce.

i have a feeling it's 'inspired' by chilli's famous triple play. anyway, it was an interesting platter, everything anyone could have asked for... chicken wings! sate lilit (fish paste wrapped around lemongrass stick)! cumi-cumi (fried calamari)! western style platter with a touch and taste of balinese. definitely recommended!

Free Image Hosting - Photolava.com
chicken and chips- rm20
deep fried boneless chicken, served with apple sesame coleslaw, watermelon, fries and ole-ole brown gravy

besides balinese cuisines, the food outlet also has a number of western dishes such as steak, fish&chips, salmon, grilled lamb & chicken chops. meiling went for the chicken and chips. how did it taste like meiling?

Free Image Hosting - Photolava.com
nasi campur ole-ole- rm30
combination of balinese grilled lemongrass prawns, squid, fish, choice of beef or chicken rendang, and sate lilit, served with lawar, sambel terasi and sambel matah

khian had the above and couldn't finish! it came in a really big portion! but looks yummy nonetheless.

Free Photo Hosting - Photolava.com
nasi kambing bumbu- rm23
stir-fried lamb cutlet with chilli and spices

balinese people sure eat alot! the food portions are really huge! i shared the above with calvin and thank god he helped polish everything off, else i would be electric-chair'ed for wasting food.

overall, the food here is pretty unique and good. definitely worth a visit if you're sick of american joints but are looking for huge portions of food. recommended to share if you're not a big eater!
